Recertification
AOBP general pediatric certificates issued prior to January 1, 1995 were untimed and designated as “lifetime” certificates. Recertification has been required since January 1, 1995. These “timed” certificates have been issued for a seven (7) year period since this date through December 31, 2008. All timed certificates issued after January 1, 2009 are for a ten (10) year period.

All recertification candidates may sit for the recertification examination as early as two (2) years prior to the certificate expiring. If taken early, failure does not affect the expiration date of the current date of the certificate. Passing the recertification exam early, similarly, does affect the date of the current certificate. A new certificate for a term of ten (10) years will be issued when the old certificate expires.

Certificates of recertification are issued to candidates who successfully complete the recertification process and who are approved by the Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists.

Examination Preparation
The AOBP does not endorse any board review course for use in preparing to take the certification examination in Pediatrics. Many organizations provide intensive board review courses which can be taken in preparation for the boards. The AOBP table of specifications is published on our website and can be used to determine if the content of a board review is sufficient to cover the listed topics
